New Research

Today I conducted about a hour research venture mostly finding alternative sources and copying and pasting bits and pieces of information after citing the sources. So far most of my research has been on the computer using credible websites. However, know i need to use textbooks and electronic databases to find larger quantities of information. I think the SILS library will be able to help me but I will need to go to the library for my the next portion of my research. So far I have had lots and lots of background information on the Dot Com Bubble but I need more specific information on how it directly affected society and businesses.

Class Excercise II

Physical: I basically googled Dot Come bubble and went to website that seemed credible. I then read the information the resource provided and made sure it was correct and unbiased.
Affective: I felt good. Actually there was not an actual feeling or good or bad but more of a feeling of assurance and confidence. I now know that there is information available on my topic.
Cognitive: I was processing the information and making sure it was credible. I also was looking out for links which could aid my research. Basically I made sure that what i was researching was relevent to my topic.

Revised Topic Write Up

For my research I will be exploring the rise and fall of the Dot Com Bubble. The primary question that I will research is "How did the Dot Com Bubble rise and fall so quickly?" With only some background knowledge on this subject, learning in depth on this subject should be intriguing enough to construct a research paper. My research will also focus in on the effects of the dotcom bubble on the economy and society. With a plethora of resources available I will need to find credible websites that explain thoroughly the Dot Com rise and collapse. It will be harder to find information on the dot com bubble’s effect on the economy and society but still not too difficult of a task, which are incorporated into by two sub questions “How did the rise of the Dot Com Bubble bring about change and/or affect society? And “How did the rise of the Dot Com Bubble bring about change and/or affect the economy?” I chose this topic because not only is it very relevant to this course but also an integral part of the how we live today.

Formulation

The topic area that I will investigate in my research is the dot com bubble and how it affected society and the economy.
The primary question I will ask is "How did the Dot com Bubble rise and fall so quickly?"
The two sub questions I will explore are
  • How did the rise of the Dot Com Bubble bring about change and/or affect society?
  • How did the rise of the Dot Com Bubble bring about change and/or affect the economy?

Kulthau’s Theory and Current Information Need

After reading Kulthau's Theory I learned that there is a set process to finding information. The initial stages are similar to what I am experiencing currently with my research. In the Phases of Construction the theory describes most users are full of confusion, doubt, and then they start assessing and reevaluating by the end of the stage. Right now i am assessing the information at hand which is very little by the way but do have a general idea of what by research will be about. The theory also explains the three realms of activity, which I am using to move through the initial stage of processing information.
As of now, I have little resources on my topic but I know there is plenty of resources available. I will need to find credible websites that explain thoroughly the dot com rise and collapse. It will be harder to find information on the dot com bubble effect on the economy and society but still not too difficult of a task. Resources such as books and written text should be available on this recent event. I am at stage 1 of the processes so I have to construct a couple solid questions to ask myself about the topic in general so i can focus in on the research.
